Never happen for two reasons:

It would look too much like PT (and we can’t have -that-, now -can- we!)
They’d need to finally fix the colour selection NIGHTMARE

This would be a very, very welcome improvement.

digital performer had a very subtle almost metalic finish that looked absolutly superb and very professional

This has been asked for for years, and would serve one superb purpose: Make things clearer and more delineated. Make it option for those who for whatever reason don’t want it, and don’t make them as bright as the actual color – make it a darker shade of the color. It’s amazing what a big difference it makes in the other DAWs that have it.
