Full & Fun Plugin Control, Remote & QC improvements

Hi all,

I was trying to use my MIDI food pedal through my Arturia Minilab 3 to control a gain level on an amp sim.
Pain in the neck, many plugins do not have midi learn, and the Cubase Remote Control and Quick Control setups give me a headache !
Starting by the fact that my Cubase does not remember the Remote, I have to redo it every time !

And when I managed to link my pedal to TONEX via QC, if I click out of the FX box the link is gone… This makes me mad, assignments are window sensitive ?? So once assigned if I want to change a volume or something I have to find the window again to reconnect ?

I wrote an article on KVR on my view of amp sims and controllers for guitar players, in my view there seem to be much room for progress for software and hardware.
If I missed something oh please do let me know !!

I am really hoping for some kind of redesign of the Remote and QC features so it’s easier to patch and control what’s going on.
Thanks!

I found an awesome WORKAROUND !
Guys if you want to setup cool controls for plugins that do not have MIDI learn or want to do more, check this out.
The FREE Waves StudioRack StudioVerse has macros that can load MULTIPLE parameters AND offer RANGE AND REVERSE!

Means I can morph from my verse guitar to my chorus guitar modulating distortion up and delay mix down at once.
Really digging Waves StudioRack !!

Of course I still hope for a revamp of the Cubase Remote and QC with some of that wizardry built in !

Is there a way to tweak the Remote Control OR QC so that we can modify the range and revert ?
It seems Ableton Live is able to do it.

When we look at that and look at what Waves StudioRack is able to do with combining and assigning MIDI cc to remote control several parameters over several plugins, it seems there is room for Steinberg to improve Remote and QC so that it can achieve as much.
Ideas anyone ?

Hi,

You can do this by using MIDI Remote API.

You can prevent this by enabling QC Lock.

Agree 100%.

@Martin.Jirsak Is correct above that you can achieve the same (and more) by writing custom scripts using the MIDI Remote API. But what I believe is being highlighted in this thread is more project specific assignments. Those needs to be handled more quickly and intuitively.
It would be cool to see QCs getting a facelift with some more advanced options.

Thanks but no thanks, I am not a coder.
Please relay to the product developers the suggestion to implement better remote and qc tools so that controllers can be better linked and manipulated, eg range and revert, multiple parameters macros etc…
Thanks

I replied to Martin that I am not a coder. If Ableton can develop such tools then Steinberg definitely can. And should, since more and more people use controllers.

Also you’re right with the point of my post about QC getting a facelift.
Every time I want to use it I get confused by the different behaviours whether it’s instrument QC, or channel QC on the inspector, how that relates to the Remote Control, whether Learn is for controller Learn or controlled function Learn, etc… !!!
I swear to God I do not want a new Steinberg delay or compressor etc but just a smooth, smooth workflow where everything is thought through, coherent and efficient, ultra-well laid out with the best UI and UX in class.
