I haven’t opened this up for several days and when I did some of the kits have the name “USER”?
Check your SDA for any Content updates. I had this, all of a sudden. I found 5 gigs of GA Content available in the SDA. Once installed, things were back to normal.
Nope, it was working as expected when I first installed it. This just happened out of nowhere. I did take your suggestion and check, but everything looks as it should.
In GA5 everything looks as expected. I’m having this problem in SE6 only.
Same here, GA5 is fine but GA6 SE shows these generic “User” icons, specifically for the following:
- Beat Agent GA4
- Beat Agent GA4 SE
- Percussion Kit
- Rock Kit
- Studio Kit
- Vintage Kit
For the record I reinstalled both SE6 and the content from SDA and I have the same results.
Hey guys,
Please make sure to have the latest Steinberg Download Assistant installed. Also, all available updates offered in the SDA should be installed.
Cheers,
Jan
I installed the latest SDA the day it came out. One of the first things I did when I noticed this problem to was confirm there were no other updates or uninstalled programs that I may have missed. I also reinstalled all related GA SE 6 software over my current install.
The problem remains as of this morning.
I have only the latest of everything installed. I think this problem actually only started with the most recent MediaBay update (which is non-optional anyway), but I could be wrong.
The best I can determine is that it appears to have begun sometime after updating the SDA. I can’t testify that for sure because I wasn’t opening the GA on a regular basis in order to determine exactly when this began.
Did you already try to reset the MediaBay? If not, please give it a go.
WIN:
Please follow these steps to reset the MediaBay preferences:
• Close all programs.
• Open the “Run” command by pressing the Windows logo key + R.
• In the “Run” window, type the following path: AppData.
• Navigate to the folder: Local\Steinberg.
• Locate the folders: “MediaServices,” “Steinberg MediaLib,” and “Steinberg MediaBay Server.”
• Rename all these folders (e.g., to “x_Steinberg MediaBay Server”) to hide them.
The next time you start the program, new folders with fresh preference files will be created, which often resolves the issue.
Mac OS:
Please recreate the preferences of the MediaBay. To do this, click on “Go” in the Finder menu. Press the “Option” key on your keyboard while the menu is open. This adds the “Library” entry, which can now be selected. In the Library, open the “Preferences” folder.
Now rename the folders “Steinberg MediaBay Server” and “Steinberg MediaLib” under “/Users//Library/Preferences/” as follows:
“x_Steinberg MediaLib”
“x_Steinberg MediaBay Server”
Upon the next program start, these folders will be recreated, which often resolves the issue.
Eh … doesn’t that delete all custom attributes and any other customisation done by the user?
I decided to take the plunge and give it a try and… Still experiencing the problem.
Hey Esato,
Please be so kind and do the following:
- open the Steinberg Library Manager
- press alt/option and click on the “i” in the upper-right corner
- copy the text from the window just opened
- send me a pm and paste the text from the window
Cheers,
Jan
When I do I get this message while trying to send them to you….
An error occurred: Body is limited to 32000 characters; you entered 341113.
There’s no way to break this down in order to send it to you in 10 or 11 messages. Please advise by PM an alternate way to get this to you.
Hi @Jan_Riesener I was able to zip the text from SLM and send it to you via PM.
N.B. I did not reset MediaBay as I don’t want to lose my tags.
Hi MrSoundman,
I checked your file and didn’t find anything subspecies. Please reset your Groove Agent SE 6 preferences.
Windows:
Please initialize the program preferences by performing these steps:
- Close all programs.
- Open the ‘Run’ command prompt and press the Windows logo key + R simultaneously.
- In the command line of the ‘Run’ window, enter this path: %appdata%/Steinberg
- Locate the folder which is named the same as your Steinberg program, for example 'Cubase 13_64’.
- Rename it (for example to "x_Cubase 13_64”) in order to hide it.
- Important: If you find folders of previous program versions, make sure to hide or remove them too.
Next time you start the program, a new folder with fresh preferences and default settings will be created - which hopefully fixes the problem you’ve experienced.
Preferences that you have grown accustomed to and that have taken a lot of time to configure - the key commands (Key Commands.xml) for instance - can be copied from the inactive folder to the newly created active preferences folder at a later point.
More details on the preferences can be found here: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/115000245510-Preferences-of-Cubase-and-Nuendo
MacOS:
Please reset your program preferences by generating a new preferences folder.
In order to do so you must rename the folder mentioned below. Note that since Mac OS X 10.7.x the user library is hidden. To access it, please click on the “Go” menu in the menu bar of the Finder. When the “Go” drop down menu appears, you need to press and hold the key “alt” on your keyboard which adds the “Library” entry to the menu.
Now please rename
"/Users//Library/Preferences/Cubase X“ (The “X” represents your Cubase version)
to
“/Users//Library/Preferences/x_Cubase X”
Important: If you find folders of previous program versions, make sure to hide or remove them too.
Preferences that have taken a lot of time to configure - the key commands for instance - can be copied from the inactive folder to the newly created active preferences folder at a later point.
More details on the preferences can be found here: https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/en-us/articles/115000245510-Preferences-of-Cubase-and-Nuendo
That seems to have solved it!
I renamed both “Groove Agent SE Standalone_64” and “Groove Agent SE” folders and restarted GASE6.
Ok, I took a shot at what you suggested. I suspect I probably have the least to lose so I’ll take the first step.
GA SE 6 in both Cubase and Stand alone configurations still present the original problem. GA 5 acts as expected in both Cubase and Stand Alone configuration.
Since this did not seem to work can I revert back to my old Cubase folders (obviously I would delete the newly created ones)
