Galley View Bar Numbers

Could the good people at Dorico please give us the option to have darker bar numbers in Galley view? Even with them enlarged substantially and set to ‘bold’, I struggle to see them. I guess it’s not a problem for young, healthy eyes but at more than 70 years of age, it’s really quite a problem. Thanks

Hi @Phil_Hinton, you could use a workaround to have bar numbers in galley view (Edit: that resemble the guide bar numbers) to be black and as big as you want (Edit: as @benwiggy points out the size of the guide bar numbers, instead can be set with the Galley View Margins Labels, but only the size and not the colour):

1. deactivate bar numbers visualisation for the Galley View in menu View>Bar Numbers>Galley View:
   

   

2. in Setup mode, duplicate your Full Score layout (and add to its name something like “big bar numbers”). [You will then use this layout for music entry in Galley View]:
   

   

3. create a custom Paragraph Style (starting for example with a duplicate of the Bar Numbers (score) one, and then setting the overrides as following (click also on the star icon to make this PS available in other Projects):
   

   

4. in Layout Options select the newly created layout on the right panel, and set the Bar Numbers options for that layout as following:
   

   

5. Result: now if you visualise the layout, it will have big and black bar numbers (you can adjust the size in the Paragraph Style, as desired):

You can make the bar numbers bigger by changing the “Galley View Margins Labels” Paragraph Style.

However, most other parameters in the Paragraph Style don’t do anything, like changing to Bold, or changing the colour.

Thank you for pointing this out @benwiggy: I edited my previous post, for clarity, in case new user confuse “normal” Bar Numbers with the guide bar numbers that can supplementary be visualised in the three view modes (from menu View>Bar Numbers)
