When I set up a flow I usually use the Bar Popover to add a bunch of empty bars. This is because when doing note entry, when the cursor reaches the end of the scroll it hides in the space between the thin line and the thick line of the ending barline, and does not actually add a bar until a note is entered. This is a problem when a bar begins with a rest. I have to hit Spacebar and then back up manually if a whole or double-whole gap is skipped by the cursor but I only want to have a smaller rest. Awkward. Am I missing something here?
Also, when adding the empty bars they are quite narrow and it is even difficult to see the grid lines in some meters. Is there a setting for the default width of empty bars in Galley View?
You don’t technically “enter” rests; they are displayed automatically.
To achieve what you want, just select the note value before pressing Space and it will advance the caret by that duration. When you add a note in, the appropriate rests will appear (depending on your settings).
