Gap between double repeat

When I added a cow bell to my bass-singer, I got a gap between my repeat signs. But it only happens, when I enter the 2nd bar of the cowbell - any idea what the reason could be?

all fine:

gap:

Show signposts to see if there is (for whatever reason) a hidden time or key signature in the space between the repeat barlines.

Hey Derrek,
of course I checked that…no hidden objects…thanx anyway…I guess I have to attach the file then… :slight_smile:
File.dorico (879.8 KB)

For some reason (that I don’t understand), there always wants to be a time signature there, and that causes the gap.

This might give a clue as to what could be the cause of the issue.
Select the first rest at the start of the dr sticks staff and change the clef to a bass clef (shift-C, F, Enter). The gap between the repeat signs disappears. The bass clef sits rather high, which makes me think that the single staff line is the bottom line of the normal five. I don’t know if that has anything to do with the repeat signs being separated, but if it is unintended behaviour then it might give the Dorico development team a clue as to where to start looking. Curiously, changing the clef to a treble clef does nothing.

Aha!
I had not noticed that Bass and dr sticks are held by the same Player.

Separate them to different players and the problem disappears.

@Janus,
thanx a lot for your help, but I don’t want to have seperate players :smiley: Sometimes there are practical reasons, why u don’t want to have that (e.x. if u make the single parts, it’s much easier to have both in the same player). But as I said: thanx anyway.
@Steven…yes, It stays a strange behaviour though…

Not true. You can easily combine two players into a single layout.

@Janus Please believe me, I’m using Dorico since a couple of years and didn’t want to have two seperate players in this case. I know you can combine 2 players, but it makes a difference in showing “instrument changes” within the score. Anyway - it doesn’t solve my problem to make 2 players out of it.
Why would you have the possibility to have combined instruments with instrument changes within 1 score if you could always just combine several single players?
—>>> because it makes things easier and instrument changes are displayed…

You may be correct, but until the Development Team includes your approach into the program, the two-player approach allows us to create parts that clearly combine two instruments in the same layout.

Percussion is a particularly hard “nut to crack” in just about every notation program, and since your request makes some sense semantically, it remains possible that Dorico will implement it at some point depending on the priority they assign it compared to other features.

(In some cases, such as repositioning a second or third flute player who switches to piccolo, the two-player solution may always be the method of choice.)
