Gap filling with audio

I have to fill gaps between events with defined audio, room tone. I wish to have a function that would do that like track based or selected events based or project based. My Idea is to select an audiofile or a piece of an audiofile as the base and this is used to fill the gaps using randomized start points of the piece to fill the gap and create a small crossfade.
