Am I right in guessing those who want gapless audio are musicians who use their DAW to create loops, etc., during live performances? If so, this next question is directed to those musicians who have posted in other threads asking for Cubase to include that feature:
How do you deal with the latency in the DAWs you use (the ones that have gapless audio), that increases as you add plug-ins? Is that a huge challenge when you perform live?
Thank you
(Note: this was originally posted in the other thread where gapless audio was being discussed, as post #97 of Cubase VS Other Daws, missing features - Cubase - Steinberg Forums ), new topic started here because the OP was blocked by our diligent moderator I’m guessing because it was considered off topic in that thread somehow. Apologies!).
I do music production and having the audio constantly cutting out and glitching as I’m working is just plain tiring.
2 This isn’t an issue. Latency has nothing whatsoever to do with an engine that handles gapless audio.
Up to C13 dropouts would happen opening and closing midi editors (Groove Agent was particularly bad…), deleting unused midi channels / folders etc and my pet hate, adding double bar symbols in the score editor! Nothing at all to do with PDC or even audio channels - just old poor programming.
For the record, there is no reason whatsoever for audio to cut out on modern computers. PDC is absolutely possible. As is inserting plugins with lots of latency on the master bus. It just requires an updated engine and Steinberg do date haven’t been willing to invest in it.
if I were to use a DAW live I think I most certainly would have a template with whatever I was thinking I would be using already be loaded before I start.
No it’s not! Audio streams through buffers. Buffers allow time travel when combined with duplicating streams. Its just resources.
Up until the new score section in V14, adding a double bar line would cause an audio dropout….. There will probably still be other examples in C15, they just haven’t wound me up enough yet to stick in my conscious!
Yes, there is an old thread with a lot of votes about glitches in the audio output when making various changes.
But, no, I don’t recall anyone complaining about that in the context of inserting/removing latent plugins. That will cause glitches in any DAW.
There are various operations in Cubase that can cause glitches in the output, but that thread is old and I believe at least some of the issues have been resolved.
I’m pointing out that Cubendo has a history of issues other than plugins causing glitches to audio playback. Many have been resolved, but they shouldn’t have happened to start with!
Inserting / removing latent plugins does not cause glitches in all daws, and doesn’t have to in Cubendo if the engine were to be updated. Fact not fiction.
