Garritan pipe organ and vocal (choir) instruments require CC7 for dynamic control. Please provide a CC7 expressions option where dynamics are graduated from pppp to ffff like for CC11 affected instruments.
Those samples use CC1 for dynamic control.
CC7 is the overall volume control that affects the mixer slider in the ARIA Player.
(The Pipe Organ library and the GPO5 Custom Organ Console use CC2 for dynamics. CC1 is reserved for tremolo.)
The only way to control pipe organ and choir instrument dynamics in Finale (from which I recently cross-graded) was to use CC7 either by changing existing expression marks or creating an entirely new set. Creating an expression control in Expression Maps as Janus described is working perfectly. I created a “Pipe Organ”. I’m using Olympus Elements for the choir instruments and they work fine with default expression maps. THANKS JANUS! ISSUE SOLVED!
Well, that’s not what the Garritan manuals indicate. Many of the Garritan instruments use different samples across the dynamic range, controlled by CC1.
If you use CC7, you’ll just get the ‘loud’ samples at a quiet volume!
I’ve been using the Choir and Organ samples in Dorico for years, and have produced Expression Maps and templates to use them; and also read through many of the SFZ files.
While using CC7 might achieve the same effect, there might be unforeseen problems, and it’s not the intended mechanism for controlling dynamics.
Okay, benwiggy.
If you haven’t already found the thread with the GPO5 Expression maps and some templates, I’d suggest having a look through it.
There’s also some useful documentation about getting the most out of ARIA and Garritan.
Thank you.
That’s nice, but I would defer to @benwiggy as the master of GPO.
