Hi, I have a problem getting a totally dry sound through my phones while recording with Essential 5, even though all the inserts are bypassed. Sounds like delay and even compression ! I am using a Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 as as the interface. Also it seems strange that I have to have the ‘Mon’ button as well as the ‘Rec’ butt to record. Am I doing something wrong here ??

You´re probably monitoring via your interface and Cubase, instead of only one of the two.
Make sure that if you’re using Control Room to disable the main outs on the Outputs tab in VST Connections. Yes, the Monitor button has to be enabled to hear when you record. You can set up the auto monitoring Pref to Tapemachine-style to enable both automatically.
