If I set Dorico into “Global (all voice) insert mode” then select a bar or series of bars (using the system track) and press control-C followed by control-V I hope to duplicate the bar.
However what I have observed is that:
-
-
- but occasionally it works but other bars downstream of the bar I just duplicated have voices ‘displaced’ (often voices which are not present in the bar I’m duplicating.)
The 2nd result is disappointing. , Because I don’t know why anything is displaced I just have to press the undo key lots, especially if I haven’t noticed the issue immediately
It’s not related to time signatures, I have time signatures in almost every bar.
A reliable method of duplicating a bar seems to be creating a new blank bar and a copying the contents into that bar (with insert off). But that is slower,
I am sure this is me and my limitations.
What am I not understanding about “Global all voice insert” mode?
Can you isolate any specific cases where you find this goes wrong? At least in theory, if you’re using Insert (Global), Dorico will insert time across all voices in all instruments, as if you had added time using the Shift+B popover (e.g. by typing +1q
).
OK great, it should work. Next time I see this I will catch a reproducible use case for you.
(Probably next year )

This is either a reproducible case or don’t understand global insert mode (always possible ) .
If I select bars 3 to5 in Flow 2 and then paste them into bar 34 then treble of bar 34 is lost, its contents should be bar 37. (I’m in global insert mode).
Dorico superimposes rather than inserts when some bars don’t include some of the voices. But can it be the responsibility of the user (me ) to notice that the bars are full or not full of notes in all the voices?

I’ve since noticed that in some places “Starts Voice” and “End Voice” was set (original import From Finale).
I’ve since selected all notes and cleared “Starts Voice” and “End Voice” flags. I think this fixes this issue and other issues (e.g. incorrect note arithmetic in bars).
