Global groove amount in cubase

Hey guys is there such thing as a global groove/swing amount that i can apply on cubase? Which makes it slightly offbeat

Can you describe what you mean by this? I assume you are aware of the Swing settings for the Grid & Quantizing. What are you try to accomplish and how are they inadequate tools for achieving your goal?

It did for me - and gave me a headache.
I think the OP wants to be able to apply quantize/swing on all tracks, and be able to change it at will.
If so, IF, then I don’t think Cubase can.
I t may be a useful feature.

Ahhh, a challenge!

The idea I had is to stick a Quantize MIDI Insert on every Instrument/MIDI Track (I assume the OP is only talking about MIDI) and it has a Swing setting. If Cubase Modulators could talk to multiple Tracks you could use one to change the swing value. But Modulators are Track specific, so that won’t work (for now?).

So I asked Claude if it had any ideas for how to change the swing value in bulk. It came up with the suggestion below. I haven’t verified this works. And until now I’d never heard that Linking Channels could sync MIDI Inserts. I hope that’s accurate because it would pretty useful in general.

Good news — Cubase actually has a built-in feature for exactly this: Q-Link (Quick Link) in the MixConsole. It works on plugin/insert parameters too, not just fader/pan.

How to do it:

  1. Open the MixConsole and make sure the Quantize insert is on the same insert slot on every track (sounds like it already is).
  2. Select all the tracks whose Swing you want to sync — Ctrl/Cmd-click or Shift-click them in the MixConsole.
  3. Activate Q-Link on the MixConsole toolbar (there’s a toggle button for it — if it’s hidden, right-click the toolbar and enable it, or use the “Setup Toolbar” option to show it). Alternatively, just hold Shift+Alt while you make the change — that gives you a temporary link without toggling anything on.
  4. Open the Quantize insert’s panel on one of the selected channels and move the Swing knob. Because Q-Link synchronizes “all touched parameters” across the selected channels, every other selected track’s Quantize insert Swing value jumps to match.

A couple of practical notes:

  • Q-Link syncs by relative movement or matching value depending on mode (there’s a setting for “Absolute” vs “relative” linking in the Link Group setup) — for something like Swing where you want them all literally identical, that’s exactly the behavior you want.
  • This works whether you do it as a temporary link (Shift+Alt, only active while held) or a persistent Link Group (so it stays linked for future tweaks too — useful if you’ll be dialing in swing by ear across the whole set repeatedly).
  • If Q-Link doesn’t visibly move the plugin GUI on all channels in real time but you can confirm afterward that the values matched, that’s normal — some plugin UIs don’t repaint live for background channels, but the parameter value does update.

Wouldn’t it be easier to Select All in the project and then change the swing in the Quantize Panel?

I used to use Copilot mostly because it was right there. But it got to be such a suck-up that it became too obnoxious to use. It also seemed to invent a lot of stuff. I once asked it where to find a little used function (for me at least) in Cubase and it just invented a bunch of non-existent menus. When I told it X, Y & Z were wrong. It spiraled off ‘thinking’ and occasionally showed what seemed to be instructions to itself. Paraphrasing, one of them was “Don’t make up stuff about Cubase”.

So I tried Claude because it’s rep for programing seemed like a good fit for DAW Technology. So far it’s been quite useful. It even built me a bespoke calculator to convert how different programs & plugins display swing values which are not consistent or standardized. For example 0% and 50% mean the exact same thing depending on where the info is coming from.

Even for audio events?

Because ide like audio events to stay where they are and just the “swing” factor gets applied globally
