Global Layer and Zones

Hello, if I understand correctly and have created a global layer, it is not possible for me to change the zones for the each part across songs.
Question: what can I change from part to part for the global layer?

Ah! There’s the downside for Global Layers.

Presumably, if you’re using a multitimbral VST like Halion or Kontakt, you could save the splits inside that and then call the program up with MIDI. Maybe there’s a MIDI implementation for splits inside the VST that you can automate. Either way it sounds like a lot of work compared to Song Layers.

Hi!

I came across a workaround for a different issue, and I think it might also help in your case.

If you want to have different zone settings per part while still using a global layer, you could use normal part-specific layers that are configured the way you want — and then route them to the global layer.

Unfortunately, you can’t directly select the global layer as an output. But with the help of Virtual MIDI and a routing track, it works like this:

  • In your local layer (which belongs to the part), select a Virtual MIDI output (e.g., MIDI Outputs > Virtual MIDI > VM 1)
  • Then create a new track with Input: VM 1, turn on Monitoring, and set the Output to the global layer (Layers > Global)

That way, you can control the global layer via part-specific local layers — and apply different zones or other settings per part.

I haven’t tested this exact workflow specifically for your zone use case, but I assume that you’d probably need one track per simultaneously active zone, or rather, one track per simultaneously active global layer that should have its own zone.

Hope this helps!

Hello and thanks for the ideas.
I mainly don’t play anything via midi tracks, my fingers do that
I use the plugin pianoteq in every song, but I may adjust octave + - and the zones for each part individually.
In one song I have splits, in others not. But they are different from song to song.
I really need to save resources because the plugins consume a lot of power and my computer has been crashing since version 2.1.10. I described this in another thread (with musicullum). So far I don’t know why this is the case. I am testing every idea that comes my way.
I also use this plugin (I never change the volume) to balance the volume of the other plugins (across songs, i.e. for a set). Works perfectly.

@Michael: feature request. To be able to set split zones in Global layer per part.

it works fine, thanks to you all.

Why not use “normal” layers? if some songs use the same one you can set duplicate shared layers.
Another option would be setting several global layers and use the new bypass (I´ve never tested it yet) switched by midi.
