Global layer crackle / increased CPU on 2.53

Hey,

I’ve got a MIDI track send to halion synth on a global layer that loops in my show just to provide some background drone noise. Since I got to 2.53 its started to randomly crackly and the CPU bar keeps peeking red (I havnt done this show in wa while so havnt really done this since maybe 2.3x?). I cant see that the cpu is really doing much in this part of the show so wondering if anyone’s got suggestions on common culprits for this and what I can try? Not sure the video is that helpful…

Can’t hear any audio but suggest you check your usb cable.

No audio pal just showing the CPU spikes which are new and they correlate with crackles on the output.

will check

cannot reproduce this. Tried to recreate as close as possible. Maybe send a project (archive)? Also, is it happening when you open views etc? Looks like it’s happening when the FlexLoop jumps back. You also have a video track, try to remove that (and all other tracks except the MIDI track), still pekas?

2.2.53 was suffering but

2.2.54 working better

So I had a play. It is better when I remove all other tracks (video etc) but still crackles / redlines CPU when looping. Also changed the size of the loop but still does it (although more crackling with shorter loop). I’ve worked around it by just not having the loop and allowing the synth sound to continue for a fixed time which doesn’t seem to cause problems.

Im running windows 11 on an 12th Gen Intel(R) Core™ i7-12650H (2.30 GHz) with 16.0 GB RAM so would’ve thought that was enough for a video and the synth looping? Maybe its a Halion thing? Doesn’t like to be looped?

Tried to recreate and plays and drones fine, also debug tools show no CPU stress.

There are many possibilities what can be different, like your note is 1 tick longer/shorter, snap, quantize, a lot…so maybe you could create a small archive project?

Interesting! I created a new project from scratch. Getting the glitches as per below video but wondering if its the specific synth? I’m using ‘filmscaper’. I get it less on other sounds (although I still get it).

Can you try to move the note on a little bit before flex loop? In a way that the note on is not sent at each loop? Just curious if this has an effect

Tryed same sound same loop config, no cpu crackles. new project.

Cheers, Ciro.

It just seems to not play the note as it goes round the flexloop. It seems for that synth it needs to be triggered each time. So if I copy your example the bottom note doesn’t play when the flex loop subsequently loops (if that makes sense).

Guess its something to do with how my computer is set up then but I’m at a loss!

Yes noticed it too. Onestly if this is a backing track I would freeze it in audio. This way you unload cpu from VST instrument, and can loop as you like without midi related problems.
