I am having a problem that after I have set up a MIDI vst track to record a keyboard, when I go back to record a guitar track through my audio interface on an audio track, the signal no longer comes through. The set up of each track looks right. The right inputs are selected and I can hear the guitar in my headphones but there is nothing being recorded on the audiotrack
Hi @Julius_Veasey ,
Welcome to the Cubase forum!
Is the red “recording” light on in the guitar track when you’re trying to record guitar (like it was on the keyboard track when you recorded it)?
Yes, the recording is enabled so the red button is on for the track
Does your audio interface have direct monitoring? If so, that might be what you’re hearing.
When did the signal come through? Have you ever recorded guitar with this same setup??
Yes, I can hear it in the monitor on the interface. So I guess that means there’s nothing wrong with the connection from the instrument to interface to computer. Problem is that the track is just recording nothing at all when I hit record. It was working fine before I put in the midi track
Yes, I have recorded lots of audio tracks with the guitar. After I put in a midi track with a usb keyboard then went back to try to record audio track with guitar the track just stays blank. I tried duplicating an audio track that already had worked for guitar, starting with a new audio track and starting a new audio track in a new project and the same problem. I also tried with the keyboard usb connected and not. I have checked the inputs and outputs and seems to be back to my interface. So I’m a bit lost as to why the set up that was working before now doesn’t register the guitar signal?
I’m guessing it must be to do with the change of the recording signal coming in from the usb keyboard connection and needing to go back to select the interface for the guitar?
You’re likely hearing the guitar through direct monitoring, which doesn’t record. Make sure the track is record-enabled, the correct input is selected, direct monitoring on your interface is off, and hit record in Cubase. This will capture the guitar signal properly.
I think the vst track being recorded is probably not relevant to why you can no longer record audio. MIDI over usb has no connection to audio over usb.
Check your correct audio device driver is selected , check audio connections, check you selected an active bus assigned correctly for the audio track, make sure mic privacy settings aren’t blocking recording, make sure sample rates are all matching…. If you can’t work it out post screenshots of these settings and give info about your os and interface etc.
How do you check the input? I have the interface selected in the studio and left stereo on the track (even though it was created as a mono track). I’m thinking maybe I have missed a way to select the interface as the input? Maybe after it switched automatically to the usb keyboard input for the midi track?
You were right. It was not to do with the midi usb. I had not set up the mono inputs on my audio interface for audio tracks on my new version of cubase. I have added these input options now and it seems to be working. Thanks to you and everyone who commented
