Going from N12 to N13 - Strange issue [Resolved]

I have a project in N12 that has 2 External FX set up in Studio/Audio Connections/External Effects.

If I close N12 and open the same project in N13, a message appears on launch stating that the two Insert Effects can not be found, and an additional two duplicate entries are added to the External Effects list in N13, and N13 fails to connect to the original two!
See attached pix.

Could this be a bug or am I the problem?

Can you tell why the effects names are different? Why is there a 2 at the end of each name?

The ‘2’ seems to be being added by N13, I guess because it sees that it already has two effects setup with the same names as the incoming ones. And then it doesn’t connect to any of them!

I’ve done some tests with other projects created in N12 and then opened in N13 and they all open correctly in both Nuendo versions. So it appears that the problem originates in the one project that was created in N12. I can’t imagine what is causing this but it seems that N13 thinks that the two external effects in the incoming project are in positions 3-4 not 1-2, so it adds another two effects slots in N13 and tries to place them there, but fails.

It wouldn’t matter what “slot” they are in. It’s the different name that it doesn’t like. Could try copying the external plugins .xml file from N12 settings folder into N13 settings folder.

I’ve tried that - makes no difference.

At no point am I changing the names of the External Effects - N13 is adding a ‘2’ to each name as the project is loaded!

Close N13 if open. Launch N13 but don’t open a project. Open external FX tab. What do you see for names?

Just done that. N13 opens normally with just two external connections. see pic below.

If I load the project these two correct connections are ignored and it attempts to add another two (see pics on original post).

Just tried loading the same project in N11 and the same problem occurs. There must be something wrong with this particular project, but I don’t now how to fix it.

what does that external FX window look like in N12 with the problem project loaded. (Also, if it’s just ONE project affected and it’s just two plugs, just call them something else and reload them in your session? But I understand about wanting to solve a mystery)

Wow - problem solved: In N12 the PCM-91 is in Slot 1 and the MPX-550 in Slot 2. However, in N13 they were for some reason the other way round - MPX-550 was in Slot 1 and MPX-PCM-91 in Slot 2. Surprisingly, that’s why they were not being found. After changing them around in N13 to match the order in N12 the project loads as it should.

Apparently it does matter what order the effects are in.

I did not realise that the order was so crucial!

Many thanks for all your suggestions.
