I went from Win 7 to Win 11 as far as my Daw goes…built a new machine for the change just like I built my Win 7 machine. I used Win 10 for surfing and email on a laptop but coming from Win 7 it didn’t impress me. I build with an estimate of 10 years or usable life before building again 
Ya, I think that’s because MS was taking so much heat for the e-waste issue.
But it’s somewhat funny to see people “happy” with win 11, that has the mandatory chip so that it can take all your data, unmolested by any third party software (the same reason the USA banned kaspersky but not tiktok). The way they defeat end to end encryption is not by asking nicely but by forcing the issue.
Kind of like the local programs; that if it can’t phone home then it won’t boot at all; having a temper tantrum like a ten year old. Same: if windows 11 can’t take all your data you can’t use it at all.

I just upgraded to a Panther Lake NUC, and it’s working great with Windows 11.
Windows 11 involves more trust in data integrity so that it is not as easy to compromise files on a hard drive, but it uses BitLocker, which requires a key stored online, when for example a change is made to the firmware in the underlying hardware.
I have an older laptop that uses Windows 10, and I was going to upgrade it to Windows 11, via the officially supported registry hack, but by the time that comes, it could be junked anyway, and I will have a new laptop.
Windows 10 uses “bitlocker” too apparently. They just don’t tell anyone that.
I could never figure out why after twenty minutes of my computer being idle the fans always start going. I kept my eye on the idle activity and finally found the thief stalking my computer at night.
It literally waits for when it thinks you are away from your computer then raids all the files on your computer. Takes your personal property and copies it to their property. Without your permission or knowledge. Then MS sells the stolen personal data to their eight hundred “business partners”. If this doesn’t qualify as manevolent I don’t know what does.
A default installation of Windows 11 will take copies of everything you have if you leave stuff in your user folder. Notice there’s no “My” prefix to the “Documents” folder as in previous Windows versions?
I too am on Windows 11 now because of software like Cubase not having a Linux option, but I spent about six months moving from a perfectly good and capable Windows 10 machine – in total probably several weeks of work that nobody is going to compensate me for – and a lot of that time was spent configuring (read: disabling) Windows 11 “features” I did not want, and did not ask for.
A Windows 10 machine remains on the network but will be disconnected and firewalled from the internet when the ESU program ends. This extension by Microsoft (which I think is the result of pressure from manufacturers who see ~11% drop in sales of new PCs which are becoming unaffordable thanks to the so-called “AI” insanity) will hopefully save some people from that pain for another while.
OneDrive started on the Documents folder, so I am wondering why Steinberg files are even there and why there is no option to change the location of presets and so forth.
A new folder was created for Auto Saves, so why not one for presets etc., since I don’t need files from the DAW (or plug-in’s) to be backed up because they won’t rescue me from a hard drive failure in any case.
The extension of the ESU is great because Nova Lake will be around by then I believe, so I can build my next generation rig, with Idle cores, hard drive encryption, and Neural Processing Units then, since my Panther Lake NUC, only has soldered RAM, and no dedicated GPU.
As far as I’m concerned Win 11 is Win 10 with system tweaks and better security…it runs great on my machine but I have OneDrive disabled as well as automatic system backups, etc.

My UAD, satellite USB does not work on Panther Lake, and is impaired under Windows 10 it would seem.
Uh oh.
I didn’t know the ruling class hated privacy this much. “We won’t support your private computer anymore” I can see them doing. But, “You can’t connect to the internet anymore” ? Wow!
This is maximum bad. Without an OS how does someone use a computer. Without software compatibility how does someone use Linux.
Not sure where this is going, but my reason to take Windows 10 off the internet when the ESU program ends is because, with no further security patches from Microsoft, all internet-connected Windows 10 machines will become prime targets for malware – if they’re not already.
Just under 70% of desktop OSs are Windows of some sort (1.4 billion). Around 400,000,000 of those are Window 10. I can’t see that many PCs being locked out. Many of them have old PCs that can’t install Win 11.
And, also, I’ve not seen any news of this, anywhere.

The hackable machines could be used as a big bot net, or crypto mining.
Microsoft started that trend with using peoples’ windows updates to upload to other peoples’ machines, instead of downloading from their own servers. This is back when I first started getting cranky with MS. But this is what antivirus is for. To mitigate not only the black-hat hackers but also the big tech white-hat tyrants. A city needs a wall for more than just one enemy.
True, that would be a major ordeal. But we’re talking about those who think they own the whole world and we are just useless eaters and they can do as they please. I wouldn’t put anything past them. These are the same people who block out the sun and get us to eat bugs and things like that.
You can solve that issue by formating other drives which aren’t the main one with a partition format BitLocker doesn’t support, like exFAT or FAT32.
