GPU processing in reaper with ARA

HI all.

I’m wondering what would be a good not too expensive GPU to offload some of the stem seperation processing in spectralayers.

Also wondering whether SL would make use of this GPU when being used as an ARA plugin in reaper or whether it’s only stand alone?

I currently have an i9 285k on windows using the onboard intel graphics…

Unfortunately at this present time, any GPU that would make a significant difference is likely to cost you much more than the price of SpectraLayers itself, so almost everything would be “too expensive”. While SpectraLayers does work with multiple brands, the leader is NVIDIA, and I’ve had good experience with even the RTX 3060 with 6GB (a laptop chip with no fans) using older versions (SL10, SL11).

With the current version (SL13) I’m using an RTX 5060 Ti 16GB which I was lucky enough to snag last year at ~$400, and I don’t think anything with less than 12GB would be even usable (some say 24GB). Unless you can find an NVIDIA card used (and not for mining!), you’re pretty much out of luck in terms of cost – at least, until the so-called “AI” bubble bursts, at which point they’ll be giving them away free. :grinning_face_with_big_eyes:

On a Windows PC, yes, it would.

Thanks. That’s very useful. I’ve seen an RTX3060 with 12GB https://www.cclonline.com/90yv0gb2-m0na10-asus-geforce-rtx-3060-dual-oc-12gb-graphics-card/?cq_src=google_ads&cq_cmp=23884393850&cq_con=199990219394&cq_term=&cq_med=pla&cq_plac=&cq_net=g&cq_pos=&cq_plt=gp&gad_source=1&gad_campaignid=23884393850&gbraid=0AAAAA9gr57-KrYBSu1rzHqWaV6Cm6PdMK&gclid=CjwKCAjwx7LSBhB3EiwAjcodxLa2KFMO41BpIuVR-yoHEuvILhk1CgFQsgZWDqeVLb2ZpAeIexjSqRoCzCcQAvD_BwE which is not too expensive in my view.

When I said expensive - some cards I’ve seen people suggesting were £1500 which, for me anyway, IS expensive

Glad to know I can aim a bit lower cost wise :-0)

Yes, apparently due to the shortage of newer-generation chips going to datacenters, NVIDIA have started re-issuing the 3060.

FWIW, that is the exact card I’m using on my i9 285k system. I got it for $300 when I built my Windows 11 system last year. It seems to work well with the song unmix in SpectraLayers Pro 12, typically unmixing a song in roughly real time on my system. I’ve never tried doing that in ARA mode, only the standalone version.
