Grace note fingering too small

Are you guys aware that if you add fingering to a grace note (i.e., using Shift-F to add a number like 2 to indicate that a grace note should be played with the index finger), that number is in a really tiny, almost unreadable font? I think by default grace notes should have the same fingering font size.

Perhaps, but you can scale it up in Engrave.

Yes here in Engraving Options:

I’ve been meaning to post about this myself the other day… If you look at reputable publishers, fingerings for grace notes are mostly scaled, just not the same as grace note scale (which I absolutely agree is way too feeble) but in fact slightly larger than that! (see for example here: Piano Sonata in A Major KV 331 from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart | buy now in the Stretta sheet music shop)

I would also strongly wish for the program to grant us the option for global scaling % of grace note fingerings!

You beat me to it Roland_Gurt! I was just writing the following and will still post it in support of yours:

It’s actually done both ways, and, in my experience, most frequently the finger number is scaled down. The advantage is that the fingering doesn’t appear to overwhelm the small notes, particularly when they are in large groups as in cadenza passages. The disadvantage is that they are harder to read.

The scaling certainly doesn’t have to be as extreme as shown in the example. I use normal size for single grace notes and reduce the size somewhat for large groups.

In my opinion, the option “Scaled to Grace note Size” is needlessly restrictive. The size should be controllable by the user.

An oddity I found here (Dorico 6.1) is that changing the grace note fingering size in Engraving Options and then clicking ‘Apply’ does nothing to grace note fingerings that have already been created in the score. You have to delete the grace notes themselves and recreate both them and the fingering for the new setting to apply.

I agree also with the comments that the options provided are unsatisfactory. The size of the grace note fingering should be smaller than regular note fingering, but not ‘grace’ size, which is too small to be read.
