Please see the screen shot. My publisher wants me to tie the grace notes in the snare drum flams to the primary note that follows each. The Tie feature did not work with the grace notes so I used “Laissez Vibrer” to get the visual of the tie. I feel that normally the tie should go under the notes as common practice but the Laissez Vibrer places the tie on top. Should the tie be on top as written or below the notes and, if so, how can I represent that?

are you sure you don’t mean “slurs” rather than ties?

Well, I guess. I think technically these curved lines are not actually slurs or ties in the truest sense. I feel they are a visual representation of flams in percussion music. I’m not sure the curved line must be there at all but the publisher wants them and they are not uncommon I guess. I just don’t know whether they should be curved upwards like you see in the screenshot or flipped. When I try to flip them the grace note flips as well. Putting slurs in does not look right either. When I use slurs and then flip them the line appears slanted down slightly. I feel the curved line should be even between the grace note and the primary note, if possible.

How did you try to add real ties, did you only select the grace notes and press T?
For grace notes tied to normal notes, you have to select both the grace note and the tied-to note, simultaneously, then add the tie.

Thanks for the response. I did initially only select the grace note and the ties would not appear so I just tried selecting both the grace note and the Primary Note and hit “T” but no tie appears on the notes. I must be missing something here.

I think you are correct. What looks most correct to me at this point is the “Laissez Vibrer” tie which will only appear curving upward. If the editor does not like that HE/SHE can be the one to deal with it I guess.
