I would like to change the appearance of gradual tempo changes depending on layout: … lines for the conductor’s score and no lines for the instrumental parts. Any ideas? 
This is “local” vs “global” properties. Set the options accordingly, but make shure the “Local” button is selected so your changes will only affect the selected layouts.
Thanks! I set “Show: local only” and “set local properties: locally”.
As a consequence there are no options to choose from appearance wise.
The options only come when I set the toggle to either “global only” or “all”.
I don’t think this is something you can vary on a per-layout basis.
However, the graphical length you probably can: ie shorten the length in Engrave mode in the part layouts until you can’t see it anymore.

@Lillie_Harris is right.
If you change it in one layout, even in Local scope, it will be changed in other layouts as well.
The extension line’s length, though, can be tweaked independently, even to the point of making it disappear.

Thank you! This lead me to try something that works super well: In engrave mode, in a part layout, just switch the toggle for “line dot size” and it automatically goes to 0. This way there is no line.
