Graphic slices requests

I love graphic slices! Here’s a couple of additional features I’d like to see.

  1. After creating one graphic slice, all subsequent slices adopt the format (svg, pdf, etc.) and colour mode of the first.
  2. Full name of graphic slice appears as a pop-up when hovering the cursor over the name (for long file names that don’t fit in the window).
  3. An option to not duplicate slice frames when duplicating a flow — if you duplicate a number of flows, there are suddenly a large number of graphic slices that you didn’t necessarily want.
  4. As requested before, a way to copy slices: opt-drag would be my choice.

Graphic slices is a great feature — thanks to the Dorico team for making it!

Thanks for the feedback, Jamie. I’ve made a note of your suggestions.

Graphic slices are page-relative rather than flow-relative, so I’m not sure what you mean about slices being duplicated when you duplicate flows, though.

Thanks for the reply and correction Daniel. I think I now realize what’s been happening.

My workflow has been to make slices for the purpose of study, then duplicate the original flow in order to make a reduction, then make more slices.

When I have a number of flows and duplicate one, I might decide to slide it around in the flow order to make a more logical sequence. At that point, I guess I’ve been moving my slices around without knowing it.

As slices are page-based, I suppose it will always be tricky for me to work in this way.

If I created all my flows prior to making slices, problem solved, but I don’t think I can work this way — I need to be able to change my mind and re-arrange things.

Can you suggest a better workflow?

Jamie

I suppose the only thing I can think of that might speed things up for you would be to suggest duplicating the entire project when you want to make revisions, rather than duplicating the flow within the same project, but I realise that takes away some of the real advantages of using flows for this kind of workflow.

(FYI—you can shift click to select all the slices and change these parameters in one go, so this does make it significantly easier than trying to do it one-by-one.)
