Is Spectralayers more graphically demanding when used as an ARA extension in Cubase compared to using it as a stand alone program? Until now I just experimented with it as a stand alone program and it worked fine but when I open it as an ARA extension it starts lagging like crazy, even at the lowest resolution. I simply can’t use it. My processor is fine: i5-12600k. However I only use the processors internal GPU at the moment. Maybe it’s to weak? I have a powerful GPU, a RTX 4070 super, but it’s currently in another city. Is it worth fetching the card? (It will take me an entire day)
Or maybe it’s better to do the noise reduction and the erasing in Spectralayers before editing in Cubase? Using Spectralayers as an extension seems a bit messy to be honest.
Plus the fact that Cubase have completely frozen or crashed a number of times when I use Spectra layers as an extension. Again, Im not sure it’s because of my current GPU being to weak.
Ive also noticed that the Asio guard sometimes reaches the roof when I use the Spectra layers extension. Maybe this is the problem? I am just an amateur when it comes to these kind of things so I honestly have no idea.
Yes!
I hope optimization improves dramatically for the next release!
Never mind my ranting. I’ve decided to go get my graphics card even if it takes me a day. Whenever I have more than 6 layers it starts to lag, if I open Spectralayers separately as well.
I have a couple of questions though. Why can’t I listen to a certain frequencey (using the frequency range selection) when using Spectralayers as an extension? It playbacks the entire range even if I mark a section. I have no issues with this when I open the program separately.
Second question. Is there no way to open Spectralayers in fullscreen when using it as an extension?
Never mind my question about the frequency selection. It seems to work now for some reason. Full screen though?
I’m a long time user of Cubase, but pretty new to Spectralayers, so it may not be relevant, but Cubase is VERY dependent on using the capabilities of a GPU, and an onboard chip may not be up to the task. I have a modest Nvidia GPU set to ‘Studio Driver’ and my system had a serious improvement to performance after installation, despite having a pretty powerful PC.
Plenty of discussion on the Cubase board about the benefits of a GPU that you may want to trawl through.
As for full screen - I’m not in front of my PC right now to check, but when I use the ARA extension I can definitely drag the corner of the window to enlarge it to pretty much full screen.
I just switched the GPU to my RTX 4070 Super and to my huge disappointment I get exactly same severe amount of lag, around 2(!) fps, when I try to use the eraser. Am I missing something fundamental here? I should clearly be able to work fluently within Spectralayers without any issues. I have an i5-12600k, an rtx 4070 super and 32 BG of RAM.
Unfortunately this is Spectralayers weakness.
SL is a nice concept, but its actual technical realization is just a plethora of bugs.
We’re still in the betaphase.
You should probably disable “realtime brush preview” and get used to working without it altogether.
