Grey notes

I have notes that are grey instead of black. They are not cue notes (and, anyway, cues are not selected in View->Note and Rest Colors), and there is no suppressed playback, and nothing is muted (see screen shots)

I don’t believe it.

That’s why I included the first screenshot. The selected (orange) notes are grey when not selected, just as the two notes before them are. And, as you can see, ‘Suppress playback’ is NOT turned on.)

Do you have the System track turned on?
View menu > System track What happens if you turn it off?

Thanks, Arco. That was it.

Don’t tell anyone … it’s happened to me when I had it turned on inadvertently and did not know it existed or what it was called … :frowning:

Same here. Plus I don’t know what ‘suppressed playback’ is or how to make cue notes, but the manual mentioned them sometimes being grey so I thought I would sound smart if I did too.

as we get older, there must be a system track above our heads, right? … must find out where to turn it off.

Well, one of my attempts to rule out extraneous causes was to first clean my glasses and then to switch to another of the four pairs that litter my desk as I try to focus on the monitor, the MIDI keyboard, the computer keyboard, a (very badly printed) score, and a second monitor showing a facsimile of the 1410 manuscript - all at different distances.
