I know this topic isn’t new, but at the same time it’s frustrating that we’re still having to discuss it in 2026.
Why Dorico 6.x still offers a maximum piano-roll grid resolution of only 1/32?
It is, frankly, hard to understand.
MuseScore, which is free software, supports grid resolutions up to 1/128.
This is a fundamental improvement that would greatly benefit many users and should be treated as a priority.
If I can insert notes smaller than 1/32 in the score Editor, why shouldn’t I be able to edit them in the Grid Editor? It simply doesn’t make sense.
This is a serious limitation. There is currently no way to manually humanize note positions beyond a 1/32 grid, making it impossible to accurately edit grace notes, 1/64 notes, irregular subdivisions smaller than 1/32, and many other situations.
The Grid editor is also an incredibly fast and efficient way to create rhythmic patterns before transcribing them into standard notation. This workflow has become quite common nowadays.
There are also some unusual behaviors when editing very small rhythmic values in the Grid editor.
