Grid type problems

Hi everyone,

I have set shortcuts to change grid type values, quantise length, note length, etc. but Grid type option in main project window quite often resets itself to BAR and this annoying…

Cubase reverting the grid type to “Bar” is usually caused by linking to the main ruler or by altered quantization or zoom settings. To prevent this, set the ruler to Bars/Beats, disable automatic zoom adjustment, or save a suitable project template.

Causes and Solutions

Main Ruler: If the ruler at the top of the project window is set to seconds or timecode, Cubase often forces default grid resets. Right-click the ruler and set it permanently to Bars & Beats.

Adapting to Zoom: The “Adapt to Zoom” option in the grid menu changes the grid resolution based on your zoom level. Instead, select a fixed grid value (e.g., 1/4 or 1/8).

Quantization as Grid: Ensure that the grid is set to “Use Quantize Setting” and that your quantization setting in the Transport or Quantize panel does not inadvertently revert to “Bar.”

Create a standard template: Set the desired grid type in an empty project and save it via File > Save as template… Use this template for new projects so that the setting is preserved.

I use bar+beats as the main ruler most of the time (even if some time I have two additional rulers for samples and time code)

I generally set it to “use quantize”, as in the attached picture and I mainly would keep it this way but it reverts to “BAR”…

I have created various templates and the one I usually start from is set as in the attachment…

So the only possibility, according to you hypothesis, is that the timecode rulers the cause of the change… I’ll try to eliminate it to see if something changes.
