What’s your impression of Grok 3?
How well does it perform for you on music related tasks?

“maximize truth and objectivity.”
I cannot give my opinion on this (and the people behind it) while maintaining the civil tone this forum is known for.
I’ve used it for text to text orchestration tips (vanilla version)
And first impression is quite good.
With some tailoring I believe I’ll use it quite a few times.
It’s like asking someone who thinks they know what they’re talking about, but they actually don’t.
I especially love the assertion that Gb to A is a - major - third.
ouch
If you like Elon Musk and what he stands for then you will probably like Grok 3, owned by Musk.
Yes, neither Grok3 or ChatGpt are good on Music Theory.
However Grok 3 can to some degree read score images.
I have seen no evidence that Grok 3 is part of some facism plot or anything. So far, it seems to me that Grok 3 is truth seeking as it says.
However: I do not support Musk in any way politically. And I find it strange to see a brilliant intelligent man like Musk team up with the truth-denying person like Trump. So, yes, a little caution is wise.
I would like to request this thread be closed. And I would welcome if we could avoid any reference to such controversial figures at all. No offense, @GeirSol , but Musk’s very own behaviour makes it almost inevitable that anger is imminent as soon as anything related to him is mentioned. (Personally I would prefer the »Share on X« option on this forum to not be that easily accidentally clickable when highlighting a string of text.)
For my own mental hygiene, I had my Facebook account deleted in order to gain a little more control over the situations that have the potential to damage my sanity, and as I cannot avoid this forum, because it is an extension of my workspace, like someone recently worded it, I’d like to not being reminded in any way of the worrying state of the world around here.
Thank you.
I’d like to think it possible to discuss a software package without personal comments about folks associated with it.
I’d like to think that, too, but I fear in this case it would require an unprecedented amount of self control not just from myself. Talk about LLMs in general, that’s fine, or in that context that you use one from xAI, but please don’t make a whole topic out of it (EDIT: by “it” I mean the latter, "one from xAI). I have witnessed countless times in the past few years where such discussion are destined to lead.
I understand you POV (I believe it’s about Musk, not AI in general?)
But, if Grok 3 outperforms ChatGpt and Deepseek, then it’s the top AI choice for many people now. And closing threads like this would seem like sticking our head in the sand, don’t you think?
As said, do talk about AI in general, and include LLMs from xAI if you like, but I think having the latter as a topic title and starter is bound to induce controversy.
I suppose. But I would not use Grok3 for music of any sort since it fails on a very simple theoretical fundamental for Common Practice music - itself a fundamental for a lot of modern music.
Yes, AI-models are still poor at Music Theory. We need a dedicated model trained for this I believe.
Yes, in hindsight it maybe wasn’t the best angle to take. I didn’t mean to add the xAI box in the OP though, that was just some machine-thinking on Steinbergs side
Even the Theoreticians cannot agree on Music Theory.
And a cursory survey of this forum will show you that there are as many notational conventions out there as there are national cultures and music genres. If everyone needs something different, how would your “dedicated model” handle it?
