Groove Agent drag into Cubase

OK, after getting the ‘Jazz Essentials’ showing up in Groove Agent SE 5, I put an instrument track in Cubase for Groove Agent and clicked follow transport. So it is working but I need to monkey with things, so I try the trick I saw in a YouTube video of dragging the pattern using the ‘midi DIN with arrow’ into Cubase. When I do that there are now three new tracks, one has the MIDI information, one is HALion, and the other is “HSSE Main” but the HALion track is empty so it does not have the instrument set that goes with the MIDI information from Jazz Essentials instrument + pattern “into the Bargain”. I try to load that instrument set into HALion without success. How do I do that?

The MIDI track “into the Bargain” meter is showing midi events are there but there is no sound. I think what is needed is “The Kit SE” but can’t find it when I click load “all instrument sets” within HALion?!?

Maybe there is a way to use the MIDI track to drive the Instrument within Groove Agent?

I don’t have the answer, but I want to do the same thing. Can I import a drum Midi, then drop it into a Groove Agent track?

Yes you have to make sure to drag it onto Groove agent track. If you drag it off the track it will create a midi track.

You can try to drag’n’drop a pattern pad onto the track in the timeline. That will create a midi part with the midi notes in it. I find this easier than using the MIDI record function that you describe.

That is the solution I used. Dragging the pattern into the Groove Agent track using the “DIN jack with arrow” gets the sounds working. Then I can still edit the midi pattern in the window below the track, which I have spent the better part of two days working on. The tune I worked on, “Unit Seven” has a ‘latin’ section so I added a second Groove Agent instrument track and mucked around with that as well, because the tune has several breaks in it.

I had to do several ‘split tracks at cursor’ followed by ‘move track to cursor’ to keep things in time. I noticed within Groove Agent, there is a counter in the upper left. It always showing 1.1.2 and never goes back to 1.1.1 but I don’t understand if that causes the patterns to be off time in some cases or if it is something else? Anyway I can get things sounding really good with the split and move routines. If I try to just drag the midi tracks, things get pretty weird so the Move menu is a better choice.
