Grouping dynamics and linking dynamics?

I don’t understand the difference. In fact, I wish none of the dynamics were ever grouped or linked. Is this possible? Thanks.

Mike

Grouping works horizontally, like “p < f”.
Linking is vertically across players, so when all the woodwinds have “p” and you want to change it to “mf”, they will change at the same times.
In program options, you will find an option to never link dynamics across staves.

I don’t understand why you would never want any grouping, as it automatically assures horizontal alignment.

Estigy, thank you for explaining the difference between grouping and linking. Now I know. The reason why I would never want any grouping is because it frequently happens that my dynamics (hairpins, too) move ahead or behind where I put them (they’ll actually be a measure or two off), and I spend a lot of time moving them back into position. I suspect this has something to do with the grouping or linking features, but I’m not sure. Do you have any idea what would cause these items to move by themselves. By the way, I never see it happen. I notice it after the fact. Thanks.

Mike

Move them in Write mode with alt + arrows.
But maybe that’s what you already do.

Yes, Jesper, that’s how I fix them. Has anybody else had this problem? What would cause this? Thanks.

Mike

Could it be that the hairpins are too long or short?
Here’s an example where the hairpin is ending at the last note
And one with the hairpin ending a bar after the last note. You can see the dashed orange lines. (or attached to the wrong staff)

Sounds like pixies. Can you show us an example? A screenshot should show the anchor point of the dynamic, and any linked dyanmics on other staves (in blue.)
