I have four parts with linked dynamics in the arrangement I’m currently working on.
I’ve been trying to align these linked dynamics with the rest of the dynamics that appear in each individual part on the same system (which aren’t linked with everything else), but when I go to group them in one part, the linked dynamics in all the other parts disappear.
I’m not sure if this is a bug or if I’m not understanding how grouping and linking dynamics exactly works in Dorico…? I hope I explained this clear enough. If I didn’t, I’ll be happy to provide screenshots!
IIRC you have to unlink before you group dynamics.
This sort of makes sense, as linking is only really beneficial for quickly entering (and editing) dynamics, whereas grouping is most useful for engraving and layout work, but I might be over thinking it!
I think this happens because not everything of the newly created group exists in the other liked staves.
Normally the whole group is linked between staves. So you can decide for yourself if, when you group something that does not exist as a whole elsewhere, you would prefer the superfluous items to suddenly appear on the other staves, or if you would like the redundant items to go missing.
