Hello all, this question will be a bit general, but in my current pop project I’ve processed all instruments and added effects to the master track for mixbus processing. Unfortunately I only got the vocal later and I don’t want to apply the effects I used on the master track to the vocal. In this case, would it work the same if I put all instruments and their send effects into a group track with all mixbus processing and the vocal just goes into the empty master track? Thanks for the answers in advance!
Yes, it should be the same.
(assuming you’re not using the fader pre-inserts on the master out)
so i did use 2 effects (gullfoss,j37) as pre-fader(blue) inserts above the green line, but i can simply just put them before the other post-fader (orange) inserts. This two effects i have to reconsider i guess!
It only matters if you’re using the fader though. If you’re for example doing a fade-out using the fader, and you have plugins after the fader and they’re dynamics plugins, then moving those plugins to a group track (i.e. pre-fader) will change the result. You could maybe solve that by simply copy-pasting the automation to the group track instead and again placing those plugins post-fader there.
Yeah, so i have not done any automation and fadeout on the master track yet, but normally i put all the dynamic processing plugins as post fader inserts on the master track exactly because what you have mentioned! In this case i will just simply copy paste all the inserts on the master track and apply them on the group track as pre-fader inserts and later when i am doing the mastering i will apply those inserts according what you have also mentioned! Thanks for your reply!
