Guiding others in installing Dorico

I’ll be teaching a class in how to use Dorico to fellow handbell people, many of whom are Finale refugees and some know little of computers. I’ve got several questions of things I think they’ll want to know about. I’ll put them in separate topics.

The first one is the need for a guide for how to download and install Dorico. I remember being confused by the process when I did it 18 months ago for Dorico 5, but I didn’t take careful notes as I usually do.

What are step-by-step instructions? Or has the process changed and is easy now?

It’s still the same process.

Download Steinberg Download Assistant from this link: Steinberg Download Assistant | Steinberg

After installing it you will find Steinberg Activation Manager in your computer. Run it and log in using your Steinberg account information.

Then activate your Dorico license for your computer. You can have up to 3 activations at the same time.

(Meaning: you can have Dorico installed for example in 5 computers, but only 3 of them can be activated and used by you at the same time. You can always deactivate your license from a computer you don’t need anymore, thus freeing up one license seat of 3 licenses to be used in another computer.)

After the license has been succesfully activated, run Steinberg Download Assistant in your computer, select Dorico and install all options.

Because the license has been activated in your computer already, you can start Dorico and it will work right away.

There’s a video on our YouTube channel that shows the whole process in a couple of minutes:

It’s actually a very easy process- and ‘Gary-proof.’
