Guitar Playback - Specify Strings

Hi there.

Wondering how to specify which strings a guitar VST will use to playback chords I enter in traditional notation on the staff.

I’m doing a jazz mockup and trying to emulate Freddie Green style comping with mostly two note chords on the third and fourth strings.

I know that I can specify strings in properties but not sure how or if that affects playback as I’m mostly familiar with controlling playback through expression maps and playing/playback techniques.

The VST I’m using is Orange Tree Samples Jazz Archtop and it appears to have options to specify strings by either key switches or midi channels.

Thanks,

Al

Dorico comes with a parallel set of string indicators that are playing techniques:

These can be wired to custom playback techniques and then used in the expression map. They are slightly larger than the indicators in the Properties panel but that doesnt’ bother me. I actually prefer the larger glyphs.

I’d found these but was having trouble applying them to the individual notes in a chord. They always seem to enter above the staff above the chord?

That’s what led me to explore the properties panel, which I really hadn’t spent too much time with previously, hoping for a solution.

Very interesting. So for chords, you’d need to use the indicators in Properties but for single notes, you can use the indicators as techniques.

Unless you have complicated voicing, you can create techniques for fretboard position that shift the virtual “barre”. That’s what I did with Ample. I believe in your VST it’s called “Fretting Position”, although I couldn’t find out how to change it.
