See attached PDF I like to be able to add a melody staff above the guitar tablature staff as in the attached pdf above. I have tried every thing that the help file mention but I can’t succeed applying it.
I have a guitar player added aIso have a violin player for melody added but when I add a staff above no staff appear above the guitar staff, If I look in full score it doesn’t show either. I’m totaly confused in how to do this. Does any of you good musiciens knows the procedure to able me to do this.
Your help on this matter would be greatly, greatly appreciated.
Hi German. This topic has been showing up wonky in my feed. Sometimes with replies but the reply count showing zero. And now nothing. Just saying if you get some weird reply’s from people as I don’t know what discord is doing. Could be my phone I guess.
Anyway. First questions : Are you in galley mode or page mode, and did you add the new part to the same player, or did you add a second player?
Yes I’m using the dorico template guitar+tablature. I’m speaking about a guitar layout where I can see above the guitar staff another staff for the melody. But I don’t know how you tick both player as your capture
It sounds as if all one has to do is copy the guitar melody (or filter for the top notes) and then ALT/OPT + Click in the target staff where one wants the melody to appear.
Of course, if you would upload a few bars of the Dorico file…
I will have to redo my files since I araise everything since nothing was working. I will try again tomorrow and see if things are better. Than I will send you my project for you to evaluate and find out what doesn’t work,
Until then be patient since I’m new to dorico and my project sure won’t be terminated but at least I’ll try to make a few bars,
Sorry for the topic showing wonky the first time I heard this. To answer your question, I’m on page view mode. I had used both players separately and also tried with the same player playing both instruments. But that didn’t make any change at all. I finally stop everything since I was going crazy and mad so I deleted the whole project, but I will try again tomorrow see if the night will be a good break. Attached is a pdf of what I’m trying to do. That will give you a better idea what it’s all about.
I normally used the template guitar and tablature, but I need an additional staff above the guitar staff to use the melody notes as per displayed in the pdf. You won’t believe how much time I’ve spent trying to achieve this; both never succeed yet. Tomorrow I will do the same project hoping that people on the forum send me the way to do this.
Thank you so much for your response and I will be glad if you know how I can achieve this. It’s probably a very simple step but I’m hoping to get it soon.
Derek
I deleted my project after a day of trying . I finally got tired and decided to restart the project tomorrow hoping that it will go better than today. I will post you the Dorico file not complete car it will take me sometime to completely finish it. But at least if I find the correct way to do it what I’m having problem with then I will still advise you.
Thank for your response
Germain
In Setup. Add a new player (and give them a Voice instrument) - It will appear below the existing Guitar player (because new players are added to the end of the list).
Drag the Voice player above the Guitar. (Now your voice part will appear above the Guitar in the Score)
I have tried all what you mentioned so many times that I got fed up and deleted my project. But I’m gonna redo it again today and I’ll make a few bars and let you know asap if works or not. I’m glad that your back I’m confident that you will find the problem.
So as soon as I finish my demo I will send you my Dorico 6 file
Talk to you soon

As discussed on my last email there the project.
I have made all of the 32 bars of notes on my project but when I try to add a staff for the melody nothing appear either above or Below.
the procedure that I use in trying to get a melody staff is as follow:
In Setup mode I add two players one for the guitar and one for the voice
Then I click on one of the note in the staff were I want the melody staff to start
Then I click right on my mouse and choose the staff above or below to add a staff.
But nothing gets added. Why I don’t know I must be out of luck lol.
At the same time could you please tell me how I can change the chords in French because I have a few thousand sheet of music and many of them are in English
Hope you can figure out what is wrong so I can carry on with this project.
Thanks many times for your time and good explanation as usual
The reason you couldn’t see your vocal staff is that Hide empty staves was enabled in Layout Options. So you created additional staves that didn’t actually solve the problem. Here is what I did:
That is because of the options you have set for the Full Score Layout.
Library>Layout Options>Vertical Spacing>Staff Visibility… This is set to hide all empty systems. Since there are no notes (yet) in your voice player, all the systems are empty and so the entire player is hidden.
Wow! you had quite a bit of work. I just received your message and didn’t have time to completely read it yet, but that’ll do now and come back to you after I grab all this new information. I’m so happy that you were able to find the problem but how in hell this staff visibility was hide empty staves that’s the default settings from Dorico since I’ve never knew it was there.
I’ll go read everything and get back to you asap.
