I wanted the last note of a piece to fade a little. I highlighted the last bar, hit Shift+D, and entered >p. Dorico added a bar and put the p there. Why, and how should I have entered that? Thank you!
It’s because Dorico wants to put the p on the next (non-existant) note.
Just let it do so, then shorten the dynamic (shift-alt-left arrow a couple of times) and delete the added bar (shift-b trim)
Alternatively, temporaritly shorten the last note to a dotted minim, add the dynamic (which will now happily fit in the bar) and change the note back to a semibreve.
Thanks. I am not sure I agree with Dorico’s logic in this case, but as long as I know how it works, I can manage it. I appreciate the quick help.
Just speculating, but >p is actually two dynamics, so Dorico puts the > on the first note and the p must come after.
