I have read somewhere how one can tell Dorico to end hairpins prior to the next barline but can’t remember how to do it. It does not bother me much if there is a note following the hairpin but when the hairpin extends into a rest if just looks WRONG. See screen shot.
Any help?
Thanks
Engraving Options → Dynamics → Horizontal Position
There is also the dynamics property (Barline Interaction) that allows you to change the default for specific instances.
Thank you both for the help. Much appreciated.
Janus,
Can you tell me where I find this?
Thank you.
Thank you!
Gary
sjanssens,
I am still grappling with these hairpins crossing the barlines and went to Engraving Options → Dynamics → Horizontal Position and changed some of those numbers but they don’t seem to have any effect. I even set both numbers to 0 and the hairpin still crosses. What am I missing here?
Gary
There is an option at Engraving Options → Dynamics → Gradual Dynamics => Hairpins ending at beginning of note at start of bar. Selecting Do not cross barline might solve it.
The thing is, I have Allow to cross barline selected and my hairpins only cross if it’s the bottom staff of a section (which is a different bit of weirdness). Setting Do not cross solves that issue (or setting the Barline interaction property). I don’t know why we would see different behavior. I’m not aware of other options. Was your project imported via xml?
Yes, it was imported via XML. O.K. I did finally find “Hairpins ending at beginning of note at start of bar and selected DO NOT CROSS BARLINE” and that fixed the situation where the hairpin was followed by a bar of rest. (That’s good). I will also try to find where I can keep the hairpin from crossing the barline when there is a new dynamic mark on the first beat of the next measure. That is likely somewhere in the same location as what you instructed me to do a while ago.
Thanks again.
Gary
