How can you do these hairpins that don’t terminate on notes?
Highlight the note, Shift+D, and enter <> (or mf<>pp etc.). You can also drag the middle point to the rhythmic position of your liking afterwards.
Either:
- Input the dynamics with the caret active
- Move or lengthen/shorten gradual dynamics after input
You can input and move dynamics to non-notehead positions.
I find that in these situations you have more control if you don’t use the mezza voce option but rather enter each half ot the hairpin separately. I set the grid to 32nd notes and then enter each half as close to the desired position as possible, then nudge them into place with the (Ctrl-Alt) arrow keys.
After the page is cast off to your liking, make final alterations in engrave mode and then switch back to write mode, filter the dynamics and then group (so they become aligned).
