Halion 5.1 Automation problem?

HALION 5.1 ISSUE USING CUBASE PRO 8.5.10 - WINDOWS 10.
I’m simply trying to record some automation. Normally with any other VST instrument as soon as I enable read/write I can move say the cutoff frequency with my mouse and immediately an automation lane appears in red and shows the automation being recorded but I’ve tried for hours doing this in Halion 5.1 but nothing ever gets recorded.

Any ideas… and by the way I do not want to use Quick Controls?
