I have Halion 7. My question: Is it necessary to have Halion Sonic and Halion 7 installed together for Dorico to work?
The point is whether it is possible to uninstall Halion Sonic, and use only Halion 7 in Dorico.

I had my setting in this way some release ago. You can choose H7 as your preferred VST and the playback template will use it. Frankly HS7 is useful if you have to share your projects…
I tend to use HALion Sonic in Dorico, just as a “player” VST; and when I do “creating” in HALion, it tends to be the full app.
I guess it depends what you do with HALion.
it’s not necessary to have either installed for Dorico to work as long as you make sure you have a different library installed as default playback configuration (for instance NotePerformer is quite a good one for this purpose). However, it’s useful to have the Halion Sonic player and content installed for compatibility purposes even though I wouldn’t dream of using it in actual projects. I don’t myself see any reason for installing H7 (and have not done so), though I could be missing something here.
dko22, I consider that Halion 7 along with UVI Falcon are the best workstations for sound design available on the market.
Although for purely orchestral approaches they are not the only thing available on the market, for cinematic arrangements they can offer very interesting ambient sounds and be excellent resources.
In my case, for creative reasons, it is very useful for me to have H7.
I appreciate your response. I think I will keep HS7 installed.
There is no problem using HALion 7 with Dorico–as long as one has purchased it.
Problems occur when users mistake HALion 7 for HALion Sonic 7 and imagine the full HALion package to be included with Dorico, not understanding the difference between HALion 7 and the bundled HALion Studio 7 package and therefore setting their playback preferences incorrectly.
Derrek, Of course, my question is more about the doubt that both samplers could generate redundancies; having something like “the same program” installed twice.
My ecosystem is mostly composed of Steinberg products, obviously with licenses.
I only mean that most of the posts about HALion are claims of no sound from those who do not realize that the two versions are not the same and have inadvertently installed the licensed program and wonder why it will not work for them.
Those more knowledgeable generally have no problem hosting both VST’s on their machines.
