Hi, installed a trial version of Halion 7 a few months ago, but discovered it was really not for me, and quickly stopped using it.
Ever since I keep getting error messages that it is no longer available to me, but the only option seems to be to purchase the program. None of the many Steinberg apps associated with their products seem to allow for easy removal of their products, and Steinberg seemingly have no interest in responding to support requests, which comes as a great surprise to me.
I have given them the benefit of the possible deluge of support requests after the holidays, but it is over 2 weeks now, without any response on their part. Another issue seems to be that I no longer have access to Iconica Sketch in Dorico, which was a hundred times more useful in this context, than Halion 7. I have tried to locate the whereabouts of the Halion files on my iMac, and its external drive, all to no avail. Why are Steinberg files so difficult to uninstall, and revert to previous conditions? Has Steinberg decided it no longer needs to provide customer support, on the assumption that this forum allows them to reduce their staff? I have been a Cubase user for years, but no more. I currently employ Spectralayers 11 frequently, but will reconsider sticking with Steinberg for future use. I am deeply invested in Dorico though, for good reason, but I fear greatly that Steinberg will officiate over a Sibelius-like decline, such as occurred under Avid, who still provide me better user support despite not having upgraded in years. Does this match other users’ experience? In fairness, the educational videos given by Daniel, John and Anthony are really good, but I think it inappropriate to ask them for help on these issues.
I would have thought the main places to look are in the Application folder (for the standalone app); and /Library/Audio/Plug-ins (and its subfolders).
You may need to reinstall the HALion Sonic components that come with Dorico.
Setting the option in Dorico’s Preferences for “which kind of HALion” you want to use may also help.
@benwiggy is quite right with what he says.
In regards to Iconica, you best invoke the Steinberg Library Manager that got installed together with Dorico. With that little program you can do several things. First, have a look what and where sound contents is installed, move contents files easily around or remove them.
Hi Ulf,
Thank you for your offer of help. I did try to remedy my problems with the Steinberg Library Manager, but I cannot determine which elements of Halion are to be removed, as there are some provided with Dorico, and others not. I do not have Zoom installed, but perhaps WhatsApp might be suitable?
Thank you Ulf, for the excellent and patient remedy applied to this problem. I must have been experiencing some glitch in my earlier attempts to use Steinberg Library Manager, as it had not been asking me to confirm deletions. I learnt a lot in our brief time together. Thank you so much.
