Halion SE: Chord and instrument tracks

My song requires two Halon SE tracks. One chord and one bass guitar. I downloaded MT Power Drum Kit 2 for my drum track. Total I have three track I want to use. However, the Halon SE bass guitar track won’t record. I checked the input volume meter and it indicates that the sound is received however the sound is not recorded on the track.
Suggested fix?
Thanks Tom

You don’t specify if you are using Instrument or MIDI Tracks for your Halion instances. Either way neither of those Track Types record Audio, they only record MIDI data.

Also it sounds like you are referring to one of your Instrument/MIDI Tracks as a “Chord Track”. In Cubase there is a Track Type named Chord Track - can you clarify what you mean.

Perhaps some screenshots would be helpful.

I’m using a cord track and a instrument track from Halon SE.

The instrument track is a bass guitar track. I use the virtual keyboard in Halon to type a few notes then I go into the track and build the whole track note by note using my computer. I don’t have a midi board.

One thing I did notice was when I click record on the bass guitar track the play button turns green and the record button is red, both of them are lit. Is that a concern?

Does this help?
Thanks Tom

Do your problem Tracks look more like what I’ve indicated in green or the red pair? Also are you using any Tracks like the one marked in blue?

What version of Cubase are you using (i.e. 9.5, 12, 13, etc) and also what edition (Pro, Artist, etc.) do you have.

For each of your problem Tracks can you Select each one & capture a screenshot like below making sure to include what’s marked in yellow.

Hi,
Is this what you wanted to see?
The sequence is Chord track, MT power Drum, Bass track last.

The problem track is the last one. A bass track

*Here is the bass track.

I’m using Cubase LE8 and Halon SE.

How exactly are you doing this? Because, if I’m following you correctly, that should result in having a MIDI Part on your bass Track similar to your drum Track. In the absence of any MIDI Data the bass Track won’t have anything to play.

Specifically what do you mean by “go into the track”?

How exactly are you doing this?
I use the virtual keyboard in Halon to type a few notes then I click on the track to open the track so I can edit the notes and build the whole track note by note using my computer. I don’t have a midi board.

I’m using a track like the blue track.

I don’t understand what you mean by this. In Cubase Tracks don’t open or close. I think you are most likely opening the Key Editor. But the screenshot you posted suggests the Key Editor wasn’t used because if it had been used I’d expect to see a MIDI Part on the Track & there isn’t one.

Cubase is pretty jargon heavy and using generic terms to describe complex issues can be difficult. From your questions I think you might benefit from some videos on how to use the Key Editor and also how to use & configure Virtual Instruments (VSTi’s) within Cubase. Sorry I don’t have any specific recommendations, but the Cubase YouTube Channel (accessible from the Cubase Hub) should have some. And folks here hopefully might have some recommendations, or search the forum for previous recs.

My software is 32Bit full Cubase LE8 and Halon Sonic SE.
I found an example of how to use two Halon instrument tracks on You Tube. In my case I want to use one track for a Halon Chord track and another track to record a Halon Bass guitar.
I have attached a couple screen print to show the settings, I hope this helps.
Would you please help me by explaining what I need to do to record the bass guitar track using Halon Sonic SE.
Thanks Tom

Sorry. I missed one screen print.

Try this

  1. Change to the Draw (Pencil) Tool
  2. On the Selected Track Draw in a New MIDI Part similar to the Parts on the Track above. Make sure Snap is Enabled if you want your Parts to begin & end on Bar Lines.
  3. Switch back to the Select (Arrow) Tool and double+click on this new MIDI Part.
  4. This will open the Key Editor where you can create and edit MIDI Events like Notes, Velocities, and Pitch.

I’d really like to reemphasize this

Thanks again!
