HALion Sonic 6 doesn’t always recognise my external keyboard

When I load HALion Sonic 6, it doesn’t always recognise my external keyboard which has a MIDI and audio cable connections. The only solution I have found, so far, is to reboot the computer and reload Artist 10.5. (Today I had to reload it 3 times before the keyboard connection worked).
Is there something else I can check to enable the MIDI connection between the keyboard and the program?
