HALion Sonic 7 - Instrument can't be found

I get this message every time I start Dorico. HALion Sonic 7 has been downloaded and installed by the Download Assistant several times but the message continues. And of course none of the HALion instruments are accessible.

Please have a look at the folder

(Win) C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\Steinberg
(Mac) /Library/Audio/Plug-ins/VST3/Steinberg

which is the default install location for the HALion Sonic.vst3 bundle.
Is it there?

Yes. There is a folder “HALion Sonic.vst3” that contains a Contents folder, desktop.ini, and PlugIn.ico

Okay, thanks. Then please do from Dorico’s menu Help > Create Diagnostics Report and post the corresponding zip file here.

I dont see a zip file. I assume the contents of it would be what you want me to post?

When you choose that menu item, a file called Dorico Diagnostics.zip will be created on your desktop. Please attach that file to a reply here.

Dorico Diagnostics.zip (243.4 KB)

Thanks for the data.
Really strange, for some reason HALion Sonic.vst3 ended on the blacklist.
To get out of it, please type (or copy and paste) the following path into the address bar of your preferred browser:
%%AppData%%\Steinberg\Dorico 5 AudioEngine_64\Doricso 5 AudioEngine VST3 Cache

Then rename the folder \Doricso 5 AudioEngine VST3 Cache to something else, e.g. _DoricoVST3Cache
After that you need to disinfect your wounds and you can restart.
Now I’d expect Dorico to recognize HALion Sonic 7.
If not, please create a new diagnostics report and post here.

Thanks a lot

Are you telling me to paste into my google chrome browser??? What do you mean when you say “browser”? I am not following your instructions. How does that relate to the file name I am supposed to change? In which folder is it in on my PC?

Hi @mccoats , I need to apologize for giving wrong advice. I’m working too much lately and my brain is playing tricks with me.
So I correct this: Not in your browser but into the address bar of a File Explorer window copy and paste the line

%AppData%\Steinberg\Dorico 5 AudioEngine_64

and hit the enter key. That will bring you to a directory with a subfolder called Dorico 5 AudioEngine VST3 Cache. That subfolder please rename and then start Dorico anew.

Sorry again
Ulf

Thanks Ulf. That did fix the issue. Should I tell all of my Finale friends about this or will be be changed so this doesn’t happen to others? Also thanks for helping me on this. I was a software developer for 23 years and I know exactly how you feel.

Hi @mccoats , actually it was the first time that I saw a HALion Sonic on a blacklist and I don’t know how that could happen. So I think this was a one of and normally people don’t experience this, so don’t worry about your Finale friends. I hope that you won’t have trouble with Dorico any more from now on.
Best
Ulf
