Halion Sonic 7 - should it have Flux?

I use Cubase Elements 12 and I’m considering updating to Elements 15. I installed the Trial version which I’m exploring. It has Halion Sonic 7. Should that include the Flux synth engine? I don’t see it.

Hi,

Yes. According to the Comparison Chart, Flux is part of all Cubase editions, including Cubase Elements 15.

In which case, how do I find and download it?

Hi,

The library is stored in the FCP_SMT_232_HSSE_Flux_Presets.vstsound file. So I believe, it’s part of the HALion Sonic Selection – Content, which you can find in Steinberg Download Assistant under Cubase > Virtual Instruments & Libraries.

Thanks for that. I used the Download Assistant to re-install Halion Sonic 7 and all associated content which revealed numerous synth engines I knew nothing about (and which are not accessible because I have no licence for them) … but not Flux. Where might it be hiding? See these screenshots:

Hi Martin / @Martin.Jirsak ,

strangely enough, the “All features” page contradicts the Comparison Chart, since it seems to suggest that only Cubase Pro / Artist come with Flux (license bundled?). Which one is the correct one? (can’t test it, since I’m also using Absolute )

Here:

Best wishes,
Markus

I see that! Strangely, Trip is also shown as only Pro & Artist, but I’ve been using it in Elements for years.

Hi Rebecca / @Airlane1979 ,

yes, also never had any problems with those specific VST instruments, on various machines (some with Cubase Elements, in order to better communicate with others).

Cheers,
Markus

I still can’t find Flux, even as an instrument that is unlicensed.

Hi,

Interesting…

The Cubase > Overview page also mentions Flux for Cubase Elements.

I’m clarifying this, and I will let you know.

Hi again Rebecca / @Airlane1979 ,

just in case:

I may’ve found the underlying reason why you still can’t “see” Flux in Cubase Elements 12:

this older Cubase Elements version was published in 2022, and at that time Flux wasn’t part of it.

But with Cubase Elements 15, it is part of the Cubase Elements license!
So your intended update to Cubase Elements 15 might resolve this “missing instrument case” elegantly.
For this, you might need to re-download (and register) all of the factory content for HALion Sonic 7 again:

HALion Sonic Selection, (3.3 GB)

Hi,

I have been officially told, that since Cubase 13, Flux is part of all Cubase editions.

Hi again @Martin.Jirsak,

thanks. Good to know! And there really have been quite a few changes and bundle extensions since 2022, since the introduction of Steinberg Licensing. Including the continuous optimization of MediaBay, content re-organisation and sometimes even VST package renaming, etc. Not too difficult to miss something from time to time.

Cheers,
Markus

Well, I didn’t know that about Flux, so thank you. However, yesterday I ran the Download Assistant and looked hard for Flux, which I cannot find. As these screenshots show, I re-downloaded and installed Halion Sonic 7.1.51 - Instrument (819.99MB) and Content Halion Sonic 7 Collection (29.55GB). Opening my trial version of Cubase Elements 15 and the Halion plugin showed lots of unlicensed instruments but not Flux. It does include a Sonic Selection instrument with lots of factory presets - but not Flux. That instrument is still hiding from me. Do you have a suggestion as to prising it out of its hiding place?

Hi @Airlane1979 ,

In My Products - Then Clicking on Cubase Elements 12 or Cubase Elements 15. Have you already Downloaded the Halion Sonic Content from there? I’m going by your screenshots.

That’s where I downloaded the Halion Sonic Content with the Cubase Versions I have, and Flux Shows up in Halion.

Yes! Thank you.

Hi @Airlane1979 ,

btw. thanks for letting me take the time to resolve your problem, and then give the “Solution” tag to another user.

:expressionless_face:

Flux was added to all version of Cubase in version 14, I believe. Then you get Padshop 2 and Retrologue 2 with Artist and Pro.

Hi,

No, it’s since version 13, as I mentioned already:
