A question for perhaps Daniel or one of his colleagues…
I have been using Elements 4 for a quite a while now and would dearly love to upgrade to Elements 5. However, because of ongoing problems with playback (only functioning for certain scores), I am reluctant to upgrade as I suspect the same conditions will persist afterwards. I should just say that I have followed all previous advice about applying correct playback template and related settings, but to no avail.
Hence this question: If I pay for the upgrade, can I remove all of the Dorico / Steinberg stuff from my computer and do a completely fresh installation of Elements 5; this way I think I am assured of avoiding the aforementioned problems?
Incidentally, I have Mac mini computer.
Hi @peter10 , what kind of playback issues do you have with Elements 4?
We can first help you to overcome these and then you can be sure that it will equally well work with Elements 5. How does that sound to you?
Here is an idea of the problem with playback with my Elements 4.
For some of the projects, playback is OK. In the PLAY mode, VST Instruments shows: 02 Halion Sonic SE. If I select e the instruments are loaded into the slots.
If I start a new project, playback is silent; as are many older projects. In the PLAY mode, VST Instruments shows: 02 Halion Sonic (not SE). If I select e the instruments are not loaded into the slots.
Following Daniel’s suggestion a while ago, I removed Halion Sonic SE from my Mac, leaving just Halion Sonic, but this made no difference.
It is possible for me to load instruments manually, one at a time, but this is a tedious process for a large score.
Perhaps you need more information from me? I look forward to any help you can offer.
Can you start a new project using the Piano solo template, add a few notes, then save the project and attach it here? Also, do Help > Create Diagnostic Report and attach the resulting zip file here.
Daniel, thanks for sending that. I installed the tool and it looks as if new projects will now load properly, whereas a few older projects are still silent. I’ll have a closer look later in the week, when I’ll have a bit more time to explore and report back to you.
Many thanks once again
Peter
Daniel
Very many thanks for your help with resolving my playback issues. All now seems to be functioning properly, so I have upgraded to Elements 5 and am very happy with the enhancements. The special price of £12.50 for the upgrade must be the bargain of the century!
Thanks again
Peter
