This is happening in more than one project. The Halion tracks are copied from midi tracks. They show the same notes but are very out of tune and dissonant. For example, I play a note that shows F and it plays B. A D seems to sound an A, though the meter is fluctuating. all the Halion parts sound in tune with each other but awful with their midi sources. Aslo when I unmute the bass track one note sounds, like stuck, though if I click another note, it may change. What can be going on?
If individual HALion Sonic parts sound out of tune, this is usually due to active pitch modulation, inadvertent MIDI pitch-bend data, detune controls in the synthesis section, or assigned controller pedals.
Open the MIDI files in the List Editor, see if there’s any controller data there that shouldn’t be.
My ability to do anything with my music is being wiped out. I use the Proteus 2000 for most of my midi parts in all my projects and sometimes that is all the tracks. Yesterday, in the middle of working on a project, it stopped all sound production, so all tracks assigned to it don’t play.
I had found projects where I had also copied midi tracks to instrument tracks and assigned to Halion, and in all cases so far, the Halion tracks all play in tune with themselves and its not noticeable that they are not playing the actual pitches assigned to them, but something else. I had found the same in C13. Any Halion tracks are severely out of tune with any midi track that they were derived from, it seems by several steps.
I tried a test. I opened a project and changed a P2K track assignment to the AKAI Z8, so I could hear it. I verified that it was playing the right notes by playing the same on Yamaha piano. I then created a new Halion instrument track and dragged that track to it, assigned an electric piano to it and played together, and the result is extreme dissonance. All that either track shows in list editor besides notes are bank and program assignments.
Some hidden master controller is affecting every Halion instrument track to transpose the pitches (though they show the same in key or score editor) to another dissonant pitch in regards to the original. This is project wide and both in C15 and C13. The current test had no Halion instrument before creating this track, so it’s inherent in any new Halion. It doesn’t seem to be regular semitones away, as if I try to find a key on the piano to sound in tune with it, it sounds out of tune, like between semitones.
Problem solved. I had done a firmware update on my mixer some time ago, but didn’t notice any problem till days later when I had a problem where a project had instrument tracks in addition to midi tracks. Mixer was at 48Z while Cubase 44. changed and now tracks are in tune with each other.
