Hello, 4+ years later having a similar issue, but I think in my case includes a broader topic concerning Steinberg Download Assistant.
I am trying to get Halion Symphonic Orchestra (HSO) linked and available as an option in Dorico Pro 5, Halion (Pro/SE) Cubase/Nuendo 12/13. HSO just will not show up as a component (most annoying in trying to get Dorico to run as it should), and HSO is the ONLY sound library that is installed and visible in Steinberg Library Manager (SLM) that DOES NOT show in the programs via a MANUAL INSTALL (we cannot install via Steinberg Download Assistant (SDA), more on that below…).
I just performed a clean OS install on a machine running Monterey (that cannot be upgraded for a specific reason). SDA will not install on this machine with Monterey, but we have installers that work on other machines running Catalina, Ventura, Sonoma and Sequoia. EVERY SINGLE OTHER PROGRAM (from Steinberg and any software company/vendor) that we have deployed to this machine runs and installs without issue, but SDA just DOES NOT WORK – it tries to install, crashes Finder, and then kicks you back to the OS login screen. Because of this, we have had to download/install every Steinberg program and sound library manually. As a result of manually installing, for some reason every program installed works/links together on this machine EXCEPT HSO.
The problem is that without SDA working on this Monterey box, we so far cannot get HSO to link properly to other Steinberg products. I am pretty convinced that the issue is with the SDA installer itself (and not my machine) since:
a). This is 100% total clean install with Steinberg products being the first apps to be installed;
b). No other software of any kind has any issues installing and running their respective installers;
c). I have had issues with SDA a few times in the past on both WIN and OSX. There is just something about the way SDA is coded that is problematic at times.
I am a dual platform (WIN/OSX) Cubase user since '89, so I have seen and dealt with pretty much everything Steinberg over the years (and I have pretty much the entire suite of Steinberg products).
Regarding my current issue with HSO, my theory is that there is something very specific about how SDA works to install its programs when you allow it to handle the install. Something about installing manually just doesn’t quite click, and so far I have isolated this only happening with the HSO library.
I would REALLY like to remedy this issue and get HSO to be properly recognized by Dorico / Halion, etc. via a manual install. Of course, it would be great if I could use SDA, but since users will find themselves in a position that SDA does not work on their machines – which I dare say obviously there is something very “off” about the coding of that application – that the manual process of installing does NEED to work correctly.
Any ideas?
