Hand Claps

O.K. Concert Band piece which is already scored for all instruments. Now I want the Woodwinds to all clap for 8 bars and don’t know how to get this notated correctly. I need the notes notated so all clap the same rhythm, but if I put notes in those measures where there are now rests I will hear the respective instruments instead of clapping. Do I need to go back into the Setup Mode and change all the single players holding one instrument to the multi-player set up and somehow assign the hand clapping sounds to play back correctly? Not sure how to do this exactly.

Any help much appreciated.

Hi, Gary!

You can add a instrument (claps) for each player, or, two instruments to each of then (w.w. and claps). Clap is an Orff instrument (whit assigned playback). I’m composing a string quartet were I - probably - will use claps and cello body percussion, so, I’ll use as example:

On Galley view (viola and claps, two separated staves) :

On Page View, I choose maintain just percussive staff:

Changing Cello part, in the “continuity” of staff:

Cello change

As other option, if you want continue to use the normal staff, you can add a secondary player “hidden”, and work whit volumes in Play Mode, turning down w.w. volumes where claps are. Something like this:

This link is about the image above, where I use this process (also in a string quartet):

Maybe it works for you!

Hi @ghfagan51, if this is only for a couple of bars, you could change the noteheads for those notes, insert a text that tells what to do, and suppress the playback for those notes:

But of course the way suggested by @RafaelBorba is more elegant.
