Handwriting recognition on Dorico for iPad

@Michael_Young1

I appreciated all the non-snarky comments…Sorry I asked…

Hi @Michael_Young1, I really didn’t intend to be snarky or offensive. If it came out like that, I apologise (I stroke through my ironic text).

I hope the second part of my reply (after my unhappy attempt to say something witty) was somehow helpful.

I searched the forum for request of handwriting recognition and post them here with some of the Team replies, in chronological order.
(But as I said, who knows what the future holds for us)

If you’re looking for handwriting input where you actually write the music out longhand and have the software interpret it, you’ll need another app (StaffPad, NotateMe, Notion, Symphony Pro all provide this feature, either built-in or with an in-app purchase, and your mileage will vary in terms of how well it works for you).

We are certainly thinking about how we can make practical use of the Apple Pencil as an input device in Dorico for iPad, but I can tell you now that handwriting the music long-hand is not something we plan to work on.

MyScript™ Handwriting and Dorico for iPad OS

Thanks for your suggestion, Steve. At the moment we don’t have any plans to integrate MyScript’s music recognition technology into Dorico for iPad, but we don’t rule it out altogether for the future.

Dorico 6 iPad

We would like to provide more support for working with Apple Pencil in Dorico for iPad, but we have no plans for handwriting input. Instead we would like to support Pencil as a means of “mouse input”, which is feasible with the Pencil because its tip is small enough that you can place notes accurately in a way that you can’t with your finger.
