i remember Cubase-like programs from Commodore 64 groups in Holland, with these little white books of printed info…vaguely 
i clearly remember when Cubase Audio came out when i was releasing my first records around begin 90s
so shouldnt Steinberg be much older than 30?
Yes, Steinberg is older. If I remember correctly, it was founded sometime in the mid-1980s. But the anniversary is about VST which came much later. 
Indeed, 1984 it was. We celebrated 40 years in 2024 already.
